Eight Jobs, Done The Long Way Round

Shortcuts are how mid-island chimneys got into trouble. We take the other route.

The Free Inspection

Firebox to cap, settling cracks to flashing — a full pass over the system with photos of anything that matters, at a price nobody argues with.

  • Interior, topside and exterior checked
  • Findings shown, not just described
  • Written pricing only if work is needed

Chimney Sweeping

A winter of weekend fires leaves enough creosote to matter. We brush the flue clean, clear the shelf and damper, and keep the mess in the vacuum where it belongs.

  • Flue brushed end to end
  • Smoke shelf and damper cleared
  • Rooms left exactly as found

Repointing & Spall Repair

Postwar mortar is on its eighth decade and shows it. Failed joints get ground out and repacked; flaking brick gets swapped before winter takes the next layer.

  • Joints repacked, color-matched
  • Spalled units cut out and replaced
  • Weather face sealed breathable
Firm up the joints

Crown Work & Rebuilds

The concrete lid takes the worst of every season, and sandy-soil settling helps it crack. We recast crowns properly — and relay whole tops when patching would be a lie.

  • Crowns recast, sloped, drip-edged
  • Step-cracked tops relaid true
  • Settling read before rebuilding
Sort the top out

Caps & Damper Service

An uncapped flue is an open invitation to rain, raccoons and downdrafts. Screened stainless caps close the door; freed and refitted dampers stop heating the sky.

  • Caps sized and screened per flue
  • Stuck dampers freed or replaced
  • Top-sealing dampers for drafty homes
Close the flue

Flashing & Leak Tracing

Storm water enters where the chimney meets the roof and appears somewhere else entirely. We follow it backwards to the true entry and rebuild that seam once, correctly.

  • Entry points traced, not guessed at
  • Step and counter-flashing renewed
  • Interior staining stopped at the source
Trace the leak

Liners & Insert Installs

An insert turns a drafty open firebox into real heat — if the liner behind it is sized right. We scope the flue, set the stainless, and hand the town its paperwork.

  • Inserts installed with matched liners
  • Old clay flues relined in stainless
  • Permits and inspection docs handled

Patios & Outdoor Kitchens

Long Island backyards do serious entertaining. Patios, walkways, fire pits and full outdoor kitchens go down on compacted base, built by the chimney crew's own masons.

  • Paver patios and walkways laid to last
  • Outdoor kitchens and grill surrounds
  • Fire pits and outdoor hearths

Heads-Ups

Seven Things Worth A Free Look

None of these mean panic. All of them mean it's time to use the inspection that costs you nothing.

  • Step cracks climbing the outside jointsSandy ground settling under the heaviest thing on the house. Early reads are cheap fixes.
  • Chunks of crown in the gutterThe lid is breaking up, and every rain now heads straight into the stack.
  • A ceiling ring that grows after stormsWater travelling from a breach you can't see to a spot you can. Traceable, fixable.
  • A damper that fights back or won't seatRust and debris from above. Meanwhile your heating bill pays for an open window.
  • Sandy grit shedding from the jointsSeventy-year-old mortar retiring one grain at a time. Repointing beats rebuilding.
  • Flapping or chatter from the flue in windA loose cap or lost screen. Small hardware, big consequences when it lets go.
  • No record of anyone ever lookingMost mid-island chimneys have never met an inspector. Yours can, for free, this week.

Outdoor mortar work runs spring through fall on Long Island, and the calendar fills front to back. The free inspection runs year-round — use it before the season you need it.

Fair Questions

What Mid-Island Homeowners Ask First

Is the inspection genuinely free?

Genuinely. A technician goes through the firebox, damper, flue, crown, cap and outside brick without charging a cent, and tells you plainly what's sound and what isn't. If work is worth doing, you get the price in writing and decide on your own schedule.

How often should the chimney get swept out here?

A fireplace that burns most winter weekends earns a sweep every season. Gas logs and heating flues still want a yearly check — blockages, bird nests and cracked tiles arrive without any smoke to announce them.

Our split-level is from 1958. What usually needs attention?

The classic mid-island trio: an original crown that's past it, mortar gone sandy after seventy winters, and a damper that no longer seats. All three are routine when caught early — which is precisely what the free look is for.

Why do chimneys crack on Long Island's sandy ground?

Glacial outwash soil compacts unevenly under concentrated weight, and the chimney is the heaviest, narrowest thing on the footprint. Small settlement writes step cracks through the joints — repairable when read early, a rebuild when ignored.

Can you put in a fireplace insert?

Yes — inserts with correctly sized stainless liners are one of our steadiest jobs. The flue gets scoped first, the liner matched to the unit, and the town's inspection paperwork arrives ready to sign.

The ceiling stains near the chimney after big storms. Fixable?

Very. Storm rain enters through cracked crowns, open joints or tired flashing and surfaces somewhere else entirely. We trace it backwards to the true entry, rebuild that path, and the stain finally stops growing.

Patios and outdoor kitchens too?

Absolutely — backyard masonry is half the summer schedule. Patios, walkways, fire pits and full outdoor kitchens, laid on properly compacted base by the same masons who handle the chimney.

When are you reachable?

Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM until 7:00 PM. Weekends the crew recharges.
